A Journey from Passion to Business

Overview:

Established in 2015, Platypus Board Co. emerged from a shared dream between a colleague and me. We envisioned a lifestyle brand with a distinctive identity, and thus the platypus – an eclectic mix of various animals, yet incredibly unique – became our logo mark.

Evolution of the Brand:

With our brand foundation set, we ventured into crafting handmade balance boards, accentuated with engaging wood engravings. To amplify our reach and cater to a diverse clientele, we introduced t-shirt designs that echoed the essence of our brand.

Collaboration and Expansion:

2018 marked a new chapter. Partnering with Awesome Otter, we expanded our apparel range by leveraging a print-on-demand vendor. Our digital presence got a boost when we launched a Shopify storefront, using social ads to attract potential customers. In an exciting 2019 initiative, we collaborated with artists, designers, and illustrators, inviting them to craft unique skateboard deck designs. This collaboration was based on a shared-profit model, benefiting both our brand and the designers. Alongside, I personally ventured into designing and hand-painting longboards. We relished moderate success, not only online but also through local pop-up markets.

Adapting to Challenges:

2020 brought unforeseen challenges. The pandemic and escalating wood costs compelled us to recalibrate. Though our marketing endeavors have been subdued, our online store remains active. Discover our journey and products at www.platypusboardco.com
